In the U.S., more than one-fourth of the population has been fully vaccinated and supplies are so robust that some states are turning down shipments. The access gap is prompting calls for the U.S. to start shipping vaccine supplies to poorer countries.

to investigate a handful of reported blood clots. In addition, officials say they need to maintain reserves in the U.S. to vaccinate teenagers and younger children once safety studies for those age groups are completed and if booster shots should be required later.

Professor Willem Hanekom, director of the Africa Health Research Institute and a vaccinologist, said wealthy countries have a stake in the success of vaccination efforts in other corners of the world. Adar Poonawalla, chief executive of the Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest maker of vaccines and a critical supplier of the U.N.-backed COVAX facility, asked Biden on Twitter on April 16 to lift the U.S. embargo on exporting raw materials needed to make the jabs.

There are also concerns that the U.S. might link vaccine sharing to other diplomatic efforts. Washington’s loan of 2.7 million doses of AstraZeneca’s shots to Mexico last month came on the same day Mexico announced it was restricting crossings at its southern border, an effort that could help decrease the number of migrants seeking entry into the United States.

Lilian Tilbeth Hernández Banegas, 46, was infected with COVID-19 in late November and spent 13 days in a Tegucigalpa hospital. The first days she struggled to breathe and thought she would die.

I guess Trump did ok

Wait, the For profit health care system is out vaccinating the Government Run systems? You don’t say?

kerrymcnasty Thanks for annoying me more than yesterday.

Need to help put out fires in India and Brazil.

Soon we will send them to our friends around the world. Those that refused the vax will then bitch and moan that we are sharing vaccines.

We should however ensure oversight as like in this country...ensure the family/friend and how much you can pay hookup doesn’t take place but fair and equitable distribution for underserved communities.

I thought the US has reached 200M. That’s not 25%. A little number fudging going on?

Honduras can have my shot.

Ship some abroad, but remember we've still got all our kids to vaccinate. The EUA for 12 and up should come sometime this summer.

We need to start with our neighbors to the south. They got the Chinese vaccine, which the own Chinese CDC said is not very effective

Send it their way. If you want a vaccine you should have gotten one or scheduled to get one. Those that don’t want it, fine. Don’t save it for those people.

Forget vaccines, the U.S. has denied even raw materials export to India which supplied it Hydroxychloroquine when it needed.

should star send them last week due most Maga Nation refuse to get vaccinate

If the vaccines only last 6 months, then we’ll need the “extra doses”

I dont know why we wouldnt ship AstraZeneca, they havent even applied in the US yet, and it would take atleast a month for them to get approved, they wont be used at all in the US, considering Pfizer, Moderna, and even J&J have advantages over Astra.

I’m curious if vaccine-reluctant Americans will finally roll up their sleeves when it’s “last call” at Club Moderna.

Capitalism...it works. 🇺🇸

States turning down vaccines need to motivate their population the get vaxxed because they have LOW rates of vaccination. That being said, of course the world needs to provide vaccines to those in dire need.

Ever notice how much the US is a nation of extremes? Feast or famine, economic boom or collapse, wealthy or impoverished, right vs. left. Yep. Nothing stable about this place ...or united for that matter.

Please start sending 'extra' doses to Canada first.

Agree. It’s what global leaders/nations do.

Why? Is their national healthcare not efficient or competent enough to develop and produce their own? I’ve been assured care was much better in these countries.

Exactly. If these antivaxers and other dummies don't want the vaccines then start shipping them to the poorer countries that want and need them. That is the Jewish, Christian and Islamic doctrines of helping the needy.

Send it to the Philippines. This would help mend our alliance with our oldest Asian allies who are currently getting shat on by the Chinese thanks to Dutertes lack of street smarts.

Yes we have a responsibility.

If we don’t vaccinate Nigeria and India, then the variants that start there will come here to kill us. Even if you are a selfish nationalist, you should want to vaccinate poor countries ASAP. We all drink from the same atmospheric cup.

It’s unfortunate there isn’t a global coalition here.

If we have more than we need, aren't we assholes if we don't?

One Fourth Is Not Enough. More Americans Must Get Vaccinated. Or COVID19 Will Stay Forever.
