On Friday, the university finally responded to Mannya’s suspension, almost a week after he divulged damning details to reporters. In a statement, Unisa said it had taken note of a story that had appeared on a few media platforms pertaining to the suspension of Mannya, who had issued a statement that had brought the matter to the public’s attention.
It had communicated this decision to him through confidential correspondence, in which the reasons for his suspension were provided. “Advocate Mannya has elected to pursue the matter in court and the it will be vigorously defended by Unisa. It is, however, recorded that Unisa intends to maintain its long-standing practice of not dealing with matters between itself and its employees via the media. Unisa will henceforth refrain from engaging in any discussion on the merits of its dispute with Advocate Mannya, which dispute is sub judice,” the statement read.
