Millions of Americans nervously watched the Derek Chauvin trial. We asked readers how they felt about the verdict. Many said they felt like justice had been served. For others, it was just one step on the journey to fight systemic racism in the country.

Jared Hobbs created a teaching moment for his biracial son when people took the streets to protest the death of George Floyd last summer. Hobbs is White and his wife is White and Latina -- and they marched in support of their Black brothers and sisters. After many conversations about dealing with their emotions and the hurt they felt, they made sure their 10-year-old was with them to watch the verdict from their home in Fort Worth, Texas.

Nick stressed the need to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, legislation now making its way through Congress."I don't know what it is like to be Black as I am an Asian American, but I do know the feeling of police abuse, racial profiling, anti-Asian hate and as a minority I do stand in proud solidarity with the Black and Brown communities as the killing and abuse needs to stop," Nick wrote to CNN."They are human being same as everyone else in the world.

Too many cops view Black men as challenging their absolute authority. Their egos are so weak that any infraction can escalate to violence. America must change how we recruit & train our police. Police must understand the context from the beginning & reject violence as a solution.

Nothing will change until we send hundreds of these macho, testosterone driven cops to prison. The cops feel they can shoot for any infraction, no matter how minor. Most victims could be found later & arrested safely. Killing them is overreacting because cop egos are challenged.

This verdict was the only reasonable conclusion. We have prima facie evidence with the video.

No. Had nothing to do with whether an excessive use of force from an officer killed a citizen. Immediately the media & blacks turned into blacks vs whites. Right back to the OJ trial when those 4 y/o black kids were running around yelling ‘OJ Innocin’! OJ Innocin’!... Disgusting.

Jurors To Read Their Final Wills Before Giving Verdict

The jury would have had their homes burned down had they even entertained anything other than guilty on all counts. No one would have protected them. For that reason, it was never going to be a fair trial.

BLM.... ALM too! Black dudes stop attacking elder Asians....

If people believe this was Racist they should be very angry at the prosecutors for not including “hate crime” as one of the charges because this just proves that Chauvin was a bad police officer and this could’ve happened to a white person just as well !

Simple! They had to find him guilty! They were scared to death because their families probably have been threatened, and they don’t want their property burned to the ground! This trial should’ve never happened in Minneapolis and those should’ve been kept secrets

How about not killing people in the first place...

...And justice for all?

The verdict wasn't justice for George Floyd. There's no justice for murder. It was accountability for Derek Chauvin, though. Root out racism and create accountability for bad cops if you want to talk about justice.

As someone who has been VERY critical of police brutality and institutional racism in police departments. Your misleading coverage of the Columbus shooting is disgraceful. You manipulated those in pain for ratings and profit. You guys are the Fox News of the left.

Give specific examples of “systemic racism “
