Mixed reactions have continued to trail the conviction of former Minneapolis Police officer, Derek Chauvin, over the murder of George Floyd, an African-American man.

In the wake of Chauvin's judgement, SaharaReporters examines some celebrated criminal cases pending in Nigeria, for which the accused persons have remained in detention for long without proper trial.On August 6, 2019, a kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala was arrested in Ibi, Taraba State, by members of the Intelligence Response Team of the IGP office following a tip-off.

The trial judge, Binta Nyako, told all defendants who intended to file no-case submission to do so within 21 days. They were also accused of possessing six AK-47 rifles and dealing in prohibited firearms contrary to Section 27 and of the Firearms Act 2004.The story of Evans is similar to that of Wadume. Evans was arrested on June 10, 2017, at his Lagos home.

The “ swift justice “ you talk about has never happened in American history. In other words, an anomaly. Compare it with the OJ Simpson case which took 280 days for a jury to be sequestered. Mob justice, but regardless, Officer Chauvin deserved what he got.

If your pregnant wife was the one George floyd held at gun point your definition of justice will differ!

If this happens in Nigeria. The police man would still be a police man and nothing would happen. Is it not today that police shot a man in Anambra for basically no crime

Lol...they wouldn’t have charged him to court by now sef. He will even have a bright path to a cabinet position in a state or FG sef.

Nigeria and US are centuries apart, no basis for comparison.
