Thando Mgenge, 25, appeared in the Ntuzuma magistrate's court on Monday to make his bid for bail, which was opposed by the state.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Natasha Kara said the matter had been adjourned to April 30.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance of SA has started an online petition campaign on Change.org in opposition to Mgenge's bail bid. So far more than 1,500 signatures have been garnered.
