KOTA KINABALU: A villager who killed his pet dog for a meal was slapped with a RM10,000 fine or four months’ jail in default by the Sessions Court here.

Martin Fredoline Dunong @Martine pleaded guilty to a charge of animal cruelty where he clubbed his pet dog to its death at a house in Kg Dumbai, Penampang near here between 4pm and 6pm on Sept 29,2019.

After sentencing on Friday , Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus told the 46-year-old father of two that his act against his pet was cruel.She went on to advise him to take good care of his pets and not kill them for their meat. The court was told that during investigations, it was found that Dunong had asked two friends to tie up his dog by the neck. The canine was subsequently clubbed to death with a piece of wood.
