Details of the fatal encounter remained murky as of Monday morning. Officers stopped Wright on Sunday afternoon and determined that he had outstanding warrants — it is unclear on what charges. Police say that when they attempted to arrest Wright, he got back into his car. An officer then fired at least one shot that hit him. After being struck, Wright drove for multiple blocks before colliding with another vehicle. Police said that they then unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate Wright.

Katie Wright called for calm on Sunday afternoon, telling a crowd that had gathered near the site of the shooting, “We want justice for Daunte. We don’t want it to be about all this violence.”
