A man has been charged after shocking footage emerged of rugby league fans allegedly throwing punches at each other in the stands during Parramatta’s win over the Wests Tigers on Easter Monday.

Footage of the alleged incident emerged just hours after the match and showed three fans involved in a violent altercation.

Officers spoke to a 25-year-old man who alleged verbally abused the officers before he was arrested and escorted from the stadium.The man tried to leave the ground via Edwin Flack Drive before allegedly damaging a boom gate and running away. Police chased him but were forced to pull out the pepper spray after he allegedly raised a traffic pole above the head of a male senior constable.

The man was rearrested and taken to Auburn police station where he was charged with resisting an officer in the execution of duty, assaulting an officer in the execution of duty, destroying or damaging property, and two counts of common assault.Originally published as
