Another First Nations person has died in police custody over the weekend.
"I think, all Aboriginal people, we're shocked, we're worried, we're upset, we're angry," she told NITV News. The deaths are a grim marker: this month is the 30th anniversary of the final report from the royal commission into Indigenous deaths in custody. Dr McGlade said she wants to see urgent systemic reform, including justice reinvestment and a raise in the age of criminal responsibility."We have this prison industrial complex that is just so cruel to our people. We have mass incarceration. We have violence to Aboriginal people that's from the state.
NITV Don’t commit crimes and then wouldn’t be in custody....Simple really but no want to be victims and blame anyone else
NITV & NITV can you please divulge the cause of death? Were they bashed to death.. did they commit suicide or did they die of natural causes.. It will be greatly appreciated if you can give us the the whole story inserted of leaving gaps for us to fill.
NITV That must mean that the people are still breaking the law and going to gaol. Don't do the crime; don't do the time.
NITV Perhaps they shouldn’t get into jail in the first place by not committing the crime. 🤷🏽♂️
deniseshrivell NITV Dont hold your breath on this 5 construction workers died in 1 month a while back & not 1 word of condolence, or even a mention, from the LNP to workers families Unless you are rich, a big donor, big biz or a mate, the LNP just dont care
