Melaka state speaker Ab Rauf Yusoh and deputy speaker Ghazale Muhammad want challenge against their appointments thrown out.
Lawyer Ng Kong Peng, representing former PH speaker Omar Jaafar and deputy Wong Fort Pin, confirmed that the appeal was lodged in the Court of Appeal in February. Ng said Rauf and Ghazele had filed a stay application before the Melaka High Court pending their appeal.The Court of Appeal set June 3 for case management and Ng said they were still waiting for the High Court’s judgment before Rauf and Ghazele could proceed with their appeal.
Rauf and Ghazale, in their striking-out bid, contended that any proceedings in the assembly or the Dewan Rakyat could not be questioned in court, as stipulated under Article 72 of the Federal Constitution.
