An Athlone-based court orderly was sentenced to six years behind bars for smuggling drugs to detainees. He flung the drugs over a fence when he saw police closing in.

The Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sentenced the 48-year-old police officer to six years' imprisonment following his conviction on charges of corruption and smuggling drugs into police cells. Police monitored the situation, and when the agent gave the sign that the transaction had been concluded, they moved in to arrest Mxoxo.
