The judge began by instructing the jury about its duties and about courtroom procedures ahead of opening statements.
Almost all of the jurors selected during more than two weeks of questioning said they had seen at least parts of the video, and several acknowledged it gave them at least a somewhat negative view of Chauvin. But they said they could set that aside. The trial is expected to last about four weeks at the courthouse in downtown Minneapolis, which has been fortified with concrete barriers, fencing, and barbed and razor wire. City and state leaders are determined to prevent a repeat of damaging riots that followed Floyd's death, and National Guard troops have already been mobilized.
Unintentional second-degree murder is punishable by up to 40 years in prison in Minnesota, with up to 25 years for third-degree murder, but sentencing guidelines suggest that Chauvin would face 12 1/2 years in prison if convicted on either charge. Manslaughter has a maximum 10-year sentence.
Give it to a criminal to be called a public icon.... disgraceful. Yes the police may have went overboard. But with his past police looking for their safety too
Speaking of racism...........Rev Al Sharptan..........nuff said.
Al Sharpton will do anything to get in the spotlight,he couldn’t care less about George Floyd,he just wants to be seen.
Family had already received 27 million, the guy was a women beater, and a thug, died of the drugs he injested, police did not kill this guy, as we will see.
Did they all swallow fentynl as well?
I agree, mass pandemonium
I see nothing but mass violent protests, injuries, arrests and community destruction occurring when this trial ends. This will not end well.
This should be 1st degree murder. People should watch the full 9 minute video. After 2 minutes - the murder became INTENTIONAL.
Hey I get it that this is a big story but it’s not the only one! I’ve been trying to catch up on international/national news nothing but Derek Chauvin trial preliminary stuff,
Just remember publics safety over ones criminal history
