A sundry shop trader pleaded not guilty at the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Friday (March 19) to a charge of molesting a nurse early this month. Read more at

Mohd Ridi, 55, claimed trial when the charge was read to him by the court interpreter before Magistrate M. Kalaiarasi.

He was charged with outraging the modesty of a 24-year-old nurse with criminal force at the Covid-19 ward of the Kepala Batas Hospital at about 11.30am on March 8. He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment or a fine or whipping or any of the two upon conviction.Mohd’s counsel, Mohd Izad Buqhary Mohd Kamri, requested a lower bail, saying that his client was suffering from a heart ailment.“The accused is also not allowed to disturb the victim in this case, ” she said.
