‘Ripped my heart out and ran it over’: Families of Oatlands crash victims want justice | jennynoise

In the seconds before drunk driver Samuel Davidson catastrophically crashed his ute into a group of children, instantly killing four of them and injuring three others, he was driving over 130 kilometres per hour in a 50 km zone. He never hit the brakes.

Those sentiments were repeated as seven family members delivered victim impact statements at the Friday hearing – with the mother of Veronique even inviting Davidson to join her in prayer. The children’s father Daniel Abdallah told Davidson “you ripped my heart out and ran over it in your car”. Davidson’s barrister Peter Nematalla read a letter of apology from his client, who told the family “I hate what I have put you all through ... it was an accident and I wish this never happened”.“I wake up sad every day knowing I am responsible for all of this, and really doesn’t get much worse than that,” the letter read.
