The historical rights of the indigenous people, have being disrespect in many world countries, bringing them to almost extinction in many cases. Canada, can be an example for a different attitude, with the exercise of respect, for their historical rights, developing laws.

This won't go over well on the south shore of Montreal or northern Manitoba

Yea, Canada would've been a wild wasteland if it weren't for immigrants, so a little bit of proportion is required. Plus nobody 'owns' any land, there are no 'natives' in the truest sense.
