Nightclubs look set to be allowed stay open later and Sunday pub opening hours will be extended under a plan by the Minister for Justice to reform the alcohol licensing laws

Nightclubs look set to be allowed stay open later and Sunday pub opening hours will be extended under a plan by the Minister for Justice to reform the alcohol licensing laws.

The changes will form part of Government's efforts to boost the hospitality sector's recovery when the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are lifted later this year. The plan would also make it easier for for cultural venues such as theatres, galleries and exhibition centres to get licences. The nightclub sector has argued that longer opening hours are essential for financial viability and to better serve tourists. "This is about revitalising these vital industries and preparing for life after Covid, when our cultural and hospitality sectors can flourish again," Minister Helen McEntee said.

Staggered opening hours create more jobs, better working conditions in restaurants, pubs, music venues, food outlets, taxi drivers, public transport. Modernisation of the laws gives space for greater creativity in the arts. It will also make the streets safer. No brainer.

Is there a Leader in there somewhere ? what is this utter shite ?

A staggered closing time across different establishments is a good thing , it works in other countries in Europe and is ideal for public transport , taxis and the safety of people .

After all the good work now they want to undo it all by opening pubs or superspreaders ,unbelievable

Let's create more alcoholics great

HMcEntee are you for real? Pubs are what you are working on. We are desperately waiting for mandatory quarantine. Very few fines being given by gardai, we are locked up and pubs are what you are working on We already have drink issue in society! Seriously?

Alcohol at the epicenter of Irish culture. It’s time we take notice of this glaring reality. 🤔

Can't wait until December!

For the 5 pubs in the country that have survived the pandemic!

good!

They have to be OPEN first- promises promises.

'Look set' = zero. Void.

So this government now thinks by doing this is winning the people over they have been closed since last March can’t wait for next election cause I won’t be voting ff fg and others.

What a Minister she is proving to be 🤭

Don't need extra hours need to be allowed to trade

sweetener for hospitality... the ones left at least... after lockdown

Where is this bullshit coming from, can't even venture outside our village for fear of the stazi and now this

Announce on Friday no pubs only until the summer and today announce there extending hours. Tis like taking the piss out of the hard working publicans in this country.

Do the old reasons for shutting them earlier no longer stand?

Imagine that some people still believe the gov will willingly allow their businesses reopen

Yes 2027 is looking up!!!

and yet they bring in stricter rules for off licenses. Anyone still think getting rid of multi buy deals wasn't about trying to raise more revenue?

I had chicken for the dinner.

Plot twist: They can only open again in 2035

I mean, they’ll have to open at all first...

When......in 2025 mabye🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

confusedlnr Has the government not got enough on the agenda?why are they even talking about nightclubs😡

more bull

There will be no pubs left to do this, seasonal places can open for a month or two in the summer then go out of business during the winter, no thanks.. why bother to lose more, greedy landlords making us pay full rent! facts

Couldnt careless.

Talk about confusing messages!

This has no practical impact for a long time into the future. Incredible that this is even on the table in the current situation.

A bit like buying a watch for a man with no arms.

Who in the name of God wants to stay in night clubs until 3AM. Surely the government have more to do. Look at the schools extending their hours

No no no 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 last thing this country needs is longer opening hours and more alcohol.

This sounds like a whole lot of garbage. Pubs night clubs etc stayed open way past their allowed hours

colin9937 pints pints pints 🍺

They are only considering this to get the PUP back, Imagine the queues in A&E from people out all night drinking. Focus on the problem at hand please and propose a reopening plan!!!

In 2023 😂😂

Great news for our descendants.

the pubs will be gone...

That’s great news .. now when can we actually get into a pub /club 😅

Going to be no pubs left to reopen after these lockdowns

What crap. That’s really going to help

I had to take a second look that it wasn’t the 1st of April FFS it was only on Friday the talk of lockdown is endless 🤷🏻‍♂️
