The U.S. government has released 25 asylum-seekers in the United States with notices to appear in court, ending their long waits in Mexico. The move Friday marks a milestone in unraveling a key policy of former President Donald Trump to deter asylum.

A woman from Honduras waiting to cross into the United States, center, combs her hair as children pass in a shelter Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, in Tijuana, Mexico. After many months and sometimes up to two years of waiting in Mexico for U.S. immigration court hearings, migrants seeking asylum in the United States are being allowed in the country starting Friday to be released until their cases conclude.

Hopkins said the U.S. is expected to release 25 people a day in San Diego who were enrolled in Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program, which forced people seeking protection in the U.S. to wait south of the border until their court hearings. Authorities can process up to 300 asylum-seekers a day at the San Diego border crossing, but Hopkins said it’s not known when they will change the target of 25 a day.

President Joe Biden is quickly making good on a campaign promise to end the policy known officially as “Migrant Protection Protocols,” which Trump said was critical to reversing a surge of asylum-seekers that peaked in 2019. The program exposed people to violence in Mexican border cities and made it extremely difficult for them to find lawyers and communicate with courts about their cases.

“Who thought this day would come?” Gomez, 36, said Wednesday in Tijuana, Mexico, at a border crossing with San Diego. “I never thought it would happen.” Rivera was hopeful she would be allowed to come to the United States, where she could live with her sister in Los Angeles as her case wound through immigration court.

_Politics White House press release

Are they being tested for COVID-19 before being released? There is no information in the article.

_Politics You’ll never see them again. It’s a free pass and will turn into a violation of the law but hey, at least the world will see us in a better light, right? What superficial nonsense.

_Politics Unravel ALL of Trump's crap.

Now do the one where Biden is expanding the kids in cages program.

How many?
