Day four key takeaways from former Pres. Trump's second impeachment trial: Trump lawyers make defense of former president.

to inciting the Jan. 6 riot on the Capitol -- instead claiming that his comments that day were protected free speech and that Democrats were motivated by their hatred of Trump.

"It is clear that President Trump's comments and the use of the word 'find' were solely related to his concerns with the inexplicable, dramatic drop in Georgia's ballot rejection rates," Castor said, after initially mixing up Raffensperger's last name and Ben Roethlisberger's, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback."This unprecedented effort is not about Democrats opposing political violence.

"The House managers have given us absolutely no evidence one way or the other on this question," he said.In this image from video, Michael van der Veen, an attorney for former President Donald Trump, answers a question from Sen. Susan Collins and Sen. Lisa Murkowski during the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump in the Senate at the Capitol, Feb. 12, 2021.

A Washington Post photographer spotted the Republican, one of several who could side with Democrats at the conclusion of the trial, reading notes that said the House team"did not connect the dots to show President Trump knew that the attack on the Capitol was going to be violent and result in the loss of life," suggesting he is leaning toward acquittal.

Cassidy appeared unsatisfied with van der Veen's response, and was seen pacing in the chamber during the trial. In one of many combative moments during the question-and-answer portion of the trial, van der Veen bristled when Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., asked him Trump won the election -- challenging him to respond to Trump's baseless claims at the core of his effort to overturn the election.

While some lawmakers floated a censure of Trump immediately following the Jan. 6 riot, most senators have refused to entertain the topic during the ongoing trial.

Could anyone explain why US TITLE 18 §1001 Does not apply to speeches where trump uses the seal of the president on his podium?

Key takeaway they have NO defense, made mix montage of word fight. JusticeMatters ConvictAndDisqualifyTrump

The defense did a very good job. I ultimately had no doubt their case would be made to discredit this democratic agenda. Every obstacle was overcome with ease. If up to the point where you could see the democrats sweat and reach for an excuse to bring race into the mix.

Under the premise that Donald Trump incited an insurrection over the course of a period of time with perfectly constitutional language that everyone else is allowed to use, is an insult to all of his supporters and an attack on free speech. (Cont.)

Those defense lawyer trying to look smart but in reality, pathetic! I will be ashamed if one of them is my family member!

My takeaway, when defense said: 'where is the 2,000 covid check' 🥴🤣

It is an Insult to the Constitution Honesty America and God for Senate Impeachment vote to be GOP POLITICS over Truth and Democracy. Cowardice over Courage

That wasn't a defence... It was a really long drawn out video of Dems saying how they would fight for the people, not actually against people.

This is so biased it’s not even news. We did watch the defense show evidence of the manager’s manipulated evidence. Didn’t read that in the article. Does truth matter? And the election was stolen.

he has no defense!

My takeaway is that the House presenters made up their case, fabricated evidence, had huge conflicts of interest, and are far too smug for the dictators they seek to be.

Well, they sure made something but it certainly wasn't a defense.

freedom to watch it play out and watch it play out

That was a defense?

By defense, you mean lies and misrepresentations, right? Call witnesses.

How many democracies have hated a sitting president? Supposedly 75 million people are his followers and voted for him, but there are 325 million united states citizens? Hmmm even you TPT supporters can calculate this right?

It was an absolute massacre. The Democrat's made a huge mistake going through with this impeachment. Now all of their hypocrisy, lies, and deceitfulness were on full display for everyone to see. Media has been exposed too, everyone knows they've been lying now!

Here is a reminder of what Democratic politicians supported in 2020.

The best outcome is if 'all' the GOP senators band together and convict Trump. It will signal the Country is willing to stand up against him BeschlossDC said 'Great Congressional leaders in history stood up to Presidents of their own party when they believed they were wrong.'

Key takeaway is that it’s over. acquittedx2

Here's my takeaway of trump's lawyers

Key Takeaways - Democrats got caught editing and manipulating their 'evidence'. When asked specifics, Democrats reverted to emotional hyperbole instead of hard facts. Democrats are full of it. Trump won't be convicted. It was all a dog and pony show for their naïve voters.

That wasn’t a defense

Has anyone asked them why Trump told his mob that Pence could overturn the election? Pence did not have that authority.

Is CNN around here? I'm from Boston. I know how to play United States.
