For me, the main goal of this Impeachment trial, knowing it won’t convict Trump, is for Democrats to put on the historical records and openly admonish Trump’s obscene attempts to overthrow the 2020 Presidential election including his influence on the 1/6/21 Capital terror attack.

Democrats and many citizens want a clear statement that such acts are beyond any acceptable behaviors for any future President Then there is the hope that Trump will be so damaged by the trial, even if not convicted, that it will discourage him from ever running for President in the future.and not call relevant witnesses or dig into pertinent issues.
