KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A single mother from Uzbekistan has been jailed for three years by the Magistrate's Court here for cheating the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by using an identity card belonging to another person to obtain treatment at the hospital for seven years.

Arslanova Oksana Leonidovna, 39, had passed herself off as Kerinjeet Kaur Tharam Singh, 48, using a copy of an identity card bearing the name of Kerinjeet Kaur, to seek treatment at the hospital at 10am, on Dec 31, last year.

Leonidovna was sentenced under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of not less than a year and a maximum of 10 years, caning and also a fine. Leonidovna was charged with committing the offence at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters commercial crime investigation division in Jalan Dang Wangi, here, at 2.30pm on Jan 4 under Section 6 of the Immigrations Act 1959/63 and was punished under Section 6 of the same act.

The action is wrong, however the medical bills for foreigners (foreign workers, expats and tourist) are much higher compared to citizens. Was unaffordability and desperate need of medical treatment an issue?

Though what she did was wrong, but what would happen to her children? Would they be sent back to their homecountry or be placed in an orphanage home here
