Helen McEntee said the fact that there is no current provision for TDs, ministers and senators to take maternity leave is 'not a very encouraging signal' for women who want to get into politics

Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne, she said "the fact there is no provision there in this day and age is not acceptable"

She said it is not just about her but it is about looking at the broader picture. "We want more women to get into politics and to show them it is an option and possible." At the same time, she said, it is very clear, it is impacting people in different ways, even those young, fit and healthy.

If you accept the role of minister you should commit to it and not have a child in those years. It's not the same as other jobs where people can just take over from you.

Is that what she's paid for .

Be great if she got into government with here party and then could actually change that law ... oh oops 😬 she is in Government!!!!

Mind urself helen, hope all goes well for u.

I rule for one one rule for the other

The amount of treasure and days off these do-nothing, bone idle politicians get and they are demanding more holidays. 🙄

When she gets her rightful right to maternity leave what will be the terms for pay? employer paid leave or statutory? Because if she is giving herself full employer pay, then give all women full pay at the same time. It will be a bad day if ordinary women don't benefit too.

She has to have leave of course time to bond with her baby, absolutely essential

HMcEntee LeoVaradkar Paschald it’s also about basic benefits being available to all citizens regardless of employment structure be it employees self employed partners etc. Why should there be a difference?

How does this even work? Is she not covered by the same employment law that gave me the right to maternity leave? Or is this more about fully paid v state maternity pay, rather than actually getting leave from her job?

With all the paid holidays, they don’t need bloody maternity leave...🤦🏼‍♀️ Should she not be busy with important ‘stuff’...

Cut their wages down to 40 grand and use the savings. F right off with more benefits otherwise.

🤔 this is how her party treat women in general so she can hardly be suprised 🤷‍♀️

At the money she's on from the tax payer weekly then there's no way there should be paid maternity leave for TD's.

Only seeing that now,

Why are you not reporting on the immigrant riots in Belgium?

The country needs full time ministers, not part time ones, not that it matters with McEntee, she’s a full time waste of space

She should get treated the way rest of women that get pregnant. Should get cut off point for her maternity leave. Sure no loss as she is useless anyway and hasn't a clue what she is doing.

I'm the criminals will stop committing crimes so that Helen can head off for a few months.

This seems like discrimination. Is it even legal, in a paid job?

Why vote for someone if they're going to be out of office for 20% of the term?

Can’t understand women getting pregnant during a pandemic...It’s too risky for the baby

Really?
