A former cop has fronted court accused of indecently assaulting his stepdaughter while he worked for the Victorian police force.

Robert Scott appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday via videolink wearing a mask and used a walking stick to enter the room.

The elderly man allegedly assaulted his stepdaughter while he served with Victoria Police, where he worked from 1965 until 1975. The former cop argued in the British courts it was oppressive for him to leave his home because of his physical and mental health and the passage of time.
