IPOH: The High Court here has set nine days next year, for the rape trial of former state executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong.

On Dec 15, a three-member panel of the Federal Court, chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat had allowed Yong’s appeal for his case to be transferred from the Sessions Court to the High Court.

“Today I will fix the hearing dates, and the other issues I will hear on the first day of trial, ” he said. He said it was okay for the victim to give evidence on camera, where the gallery is emptied, but the witness should take the stand, just like in other rape cases. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ainul Wardah Shahidan said the prosecution would be calling in 20 witnesses, while the defence had three witnesses lined up.
