The Supreme Court granted a request Wednesday from the state of Alabama to prohibit voters from casting their ballots curbside, an accommodation sought by Covid-vulnerable voters in the state.
The 5-3 order was unsigned, but Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by the other liberal justices on the bench, Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer, dissented.A federal district court had concluded that curbside voting should be allowed."The severity of the COVID--19 pandemic should, by now, need no elaboration," Sotomayor wrote.

Funny thing is in my province in Canada we just had an election where I witnessed a 90+ yr old vote from her car due to mobility and covid-19 issues. Everything seemed to work out well. The sky didn't fall. The world didn't end. Maybe our election officials are smarter.

I have mixed feelings on voting modifications. I am well aware of the tendency of some men to intimidate their wives regarding ballot choices. Any rule that makes it too easy for one person to control another's vote is unacceptably dangerous, regardless of which side is helped.
