France's controversial foreign policy to back dictators taints its ambitions to get a seat on a global human rights body

As France aims to get a seat on the Human Rights Council , questions are being raised about its role in fueling bloody conflicts in war-torn countries such as Libya, its backing of warlords and dictators, and the rising tide of Islamophobia attributed to government policies.

The French government has backed General Khalifa Haftar in the Libyan conflict despite Haftar facing severe accusations of killing civilians, he says. Instead, their authorities insisted that the matter be taken up by the International Criminal Court , which facesIn any case, Ugarte notes, France hasn’t explained its continuous backing of Haftar despite the fact that his deputy Mahmoud Al-Werfalli faces an ICC arrest warrant.

When organisations such as the HRC have tried to investigate regional conflicts like the one in Libya, Macron’s government has undermined the efforts by insisting on first getting a unified European stance on such issues.

when did freedom of expression become an attack 😂

No Macron's regime is brutal & racist - such regime should not be lecturing the world on human rights. Macron obviously gets a buzz out of massacring black/brown in their lands but look what he has done to his own white people when they protested against him

Its like hitler wants to sit and talk human rights..

No his behaviour towards Muslims is unacceptable.

How is he even allowed?

EmmanuelMacron you are a great leader 👍 keep up the great work

Nope

Not just France.. all Europe back and supports dictators and mass murderers around the world..sisi just hanged more than 15 opposition leaders and not a single voice in europe condemned it.. europe only uses human rights slogan as a weapon against its enemies

macron is a liar.

Macron supported separatism in Azerbaijan whilst revealing his anti separatism bill. France is a major hypocrisy which still believes it is a colonial power. France should NOT be given a seat on a HRs body and should be stripped of P5 status along with all P5 members.

Macron supports all dictators in the world.

No France doesn't deserve to be a member of security council France be put under sanctions
