The Senate Judiciary Committee will start considering Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination next week.

Tuesday that he feels “great” despite his diagnosis and is “on the path to being cleared” for Barrett’s confirmation hearing, which is scheduled to begin Monday.

Tillis said he is “following the doctor's guidance on self- quarantine,” but his “guess is I will join [the hearings] virtually for the first day or two and then I should be cleared for the vote later in the week.” Johnson, who also has tested positive for Covid-19 but does not serve on the Judiciary Committee, told local radio stationMonday that while he would be willing to vote for Barrett’s confirmation virtually, he would do whatever it takes to be present for the vote if necessary—even if he has to “go in in a moon suit.”

The senators were two of three GOP senators to test positive for Covid-19, along with Sen. Mike Lee , and Sens.

opposing the current timeline, saying that proceeding with the hearings would threaten “the health and safety of all those who are called upon to do the work of this body.”Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation has been a major source of controversy, given the nominee’s history of social conservatism and Republicans breaking the precedent for Supreme Court nominations that they previously set in 2016.
