Jackson misappropriated more than $100,000 from her union between 2003 and 2010, at a time she was leading an organisation that represents poorly-paid health workers. She was national secretary from 2008 to 2015.
A suppression order prevented media from reporting last year's trial and verdicts, until Judge Fox lifted the order. Her admissions on Monday afternoon came at a late stage, as in the morning she was warned by Judge Fox that last week's sentence indication would not apply beyond the day if the case was not resolved. Had Jackson opted to take the remaining two charges to trial she faced the prospect of being jailed if she lost.
Thomson was originally convicted of 65 fraud and theft charges by a magistrate, related to using $5650 in union money to pay for prostitutes and travel expenses, but was ultimately convicted on appeal on 13 charges and fined $25,000. Asked if she stole from the union, she said: "Absolutely not, and that's what I am mostly upset about, that - I cared and still care for those members of the union, not just the Health Services Union but unions around the country.
