The NSW Coalition has reached an agreement on its controversial koala protection policy which threatened to derail the Berejiklian government.

The agreement will be taken to Cabinet next week. Sky News understands that while the koala policy boosts the number of protections for koalas, agricultural land and farmers are entirely exempt. “The NSW Liberal-National Coalition has been considering our policy in relation to the protection of koalas and what it means for all of NSW,” state Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“I’m very pleased to say that ahead of the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday that the NSW Coalition has rested on a very balanced, fair approach.” Acting Deputy Premier Paul Toole said that approach meant a balance between environmental protections and the rights of farmers and properties. “We’re close to actually landing a balanced outcome,” Mr Toole said.
