Sky News US political commentator Joe Hockey says President Donald Trump “could appoint an interim judge” to the Supreme Court without Senatorial approval if the Senate fails to move. Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg died over the weekend aged 87 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
“The election is now about guns, God, and abortion rights,” he said. The appointment of a supreme court justice could be crucial to the eventual result of the November election as many pundits say the result will be unclear on election night, and could eventually end up in the courts. “There is going to be, if the election is reasonably close, a long peripod of dispute about the electoral process which will end up in the courts,” he said.
