"Believe me, the drug companies that invented and made it would have loved for it to have been granted by the FDA the moniker as a general anesthetic," says Lubarsky."But it didn't get that, because it doesn't do that."testified in OhioFor years now, problems with using midazolam in lethal injections have been clear.
"What we found is a very large percentage of executed inmates did not have a sufficient level of anesthesia in their blood at death in order to assure that they were asleep and not feeling the pain of the rest of the process," says Lubarsky.

Pulmonary edema can happen at any time before or after death. That said, lethal injections have been demonstrated to be extremely painful. A guillotine would be more humane.

Of the 5 legal methods of execution in the United States, I think firing squad is the most humane. Relatively quick, explicitly violent so there is no misunderstanding of what's happening, and many of the condemned organs can be transplanted. Or the state could not kill people.
