, which first broke the news of Ginsburg's passing, reported that the liberal associate justice dictated her wish to her granddaughter Clara Spera.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement Friday night that Trump's next nomineesaid last year that he would seek to confirm another justice to the bench if the opportunity arose, even in an election yearThat statement of intent immediately drew accusations of hypocrisy. In 2016, after the death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, McConnell had blocked then-President Barack Obama from filling that vacancy.
After Ginsburg's death was announced, Senate Minority Leader Chuck SChumer, D-N.Y., tweeted those exact words.
rachel_beeman Oh well
Aaaaaaaaaaand?
Who cares? It wasn't her decision.
Sorry Ginsburg, we need a real Supreme Court Justice who respects the Constitution and the rule of law. JFYI
Biden, Harris & Democrats are playing political games & old war tactics, “Divide and Conquer”. They cause civil unrest, protests, pit citizens against each other. Then blame Trump & Republicans. America, don’t fall for it! Trump is a Leader who gets things done!
Of course she didn't.
If you believe this then I have a bridge in NYC I would like to sell you!!
Then she should have held in until 2032! Trump2020, Ivanka2024 Ivanka2028!
Potus and the Senators have to do their job until the last day and get a new judge .... Citizens do not get to choose judges
If Democrats can impeach Donald Trump in an election year then Donald Trump can fill a Supreme Court Seat in an election year.
Screw the Democrats. Who cares what they want.
If Hopes & Wishes were Cherries, we'd all have a bowl full!
Fortunately it’s not her decision. The President gets to pick the candidate. RIP Justice Ginsberg
I’m sure she wanted a liberal POTUS to appoint a liberal justice. I hope it doesn’t work out that way.
It's not up to her wish.
Does she want to wait four mores for a new president? Long wait
I wished that ice cream Nancy would be censured and removed along with Shifty. If wishes were horses beggars would ride.
Mitch dont care lol
Yep I bet she told Nancy Pelosi in secret
Bullshit!
Why wait
Trump2020
wasn't Merrick Garland's nomination squashed because it was too close to the election and it was a whole year out? this one's only 45 days away and people already started voting
I wish she had never been elected to the Supreme Court. But we don’t always get what we wish for.
Okay, In 2016 the senate was controlled by GOP and the pres was a dem. It would have gone nowhere. The dems thought Hillary would win and the Senate would flip, therefore postponed the selection. This time, the pres and senate are both GOP, so they go on with the pick... sorry!
😂😂😂and?
Many of us wish she stepped down when Obama was president.
She doesn’t get to decide!
Fill the seat Americans deserve that it be filled immediately
Unfortunately she's gone, so it doesn't matter now
Ginsburg said she didn't want to see Trump get elected a second term while she was still alive. She got her wish. You only get one wish. Trump2020
I am not sure how long it takes to elect a judge, but hopefully it's done as soon as possible. No one cares what her dying wish was. The constitution doesn't allow for dying wishes. If she thought she could control the Supreme Court after she died, she's a clown.
You should have retired and enjoyed your last months. Who cares about politics when you are leaving this place forever? RIP
McConnell & GOP in 2016 made the argument 8 justices is fine until the next election since if there's a tie , the lower court ruling will stand. They held up Obama's nomination for 10 MONTHS saying it was too close to the election. We're now weeks away, voters should decide!
Should have stepped down long ago.
Let us all hope this wont be granted. Trump pick a good replacement for her. RIP RBG
