President Trump has cast fresh doubt on any deal to keep TikTok in the country. Trump also said he had been informed that there's 'no legal path' for the U.S. to get a cut of whatever deal the government approves — an idea he had floated previously.

Mir served as staff chairperson of the during the Obama administration, the interagency panel that recommended to the president that TikTok be forced to divest in the U.S. by mid-November.

Mir said in an interview with NPR that the president approving a deal that the CFIUS did not is"unusual," but he added:"It's clearly within the powers of the president to modify his order."Microsoft, one of the most valuable companies in the world, owns Xbox and LinkedIn and was seen as the likely buyer for TikTok, but China intervened in the midst of negotiations and passed a new rule placing restrictions on how TikTok's all-important algorithm could be exported.

TIM WU.... A TikTok Ban Is Overdue Critics say we shouldn’t abandon the ideal of an open internet. But there is such a thing as being a sucker.

Not a security risk. A risk to his campaign. Tulsa tickets claimed embarrassed him and he wants revenge. petty

Wait, the government can't take a cut of businesses just because the president says so? What kind of dictatorship is this?!?! One of the many reasons not to elect celebrities to political office.

He can't take any money from them.

President Trump tries to negotiate good deals for Americans and at the same time to shut down companies from other countries invading our privacy stealing our competitive secrets and distributing fake news although alot of the fake news comes from American citizen Dems

Political retaliation!

He was all set to get a cut of the deal from Microsoft, but when Oracle turned out to the the top bidder and he didn't have any hooks in Oracle, he decided to try and implode the deal. It's rather obviouos.

Trump sounded as mentally deranged as he is - bitshit crazy!

Why would the US get a cut? Why would Mexico pay for a wall? Oh yeah Trump is a terrible business man.

Wall Street, do you really want a business environment like the Soviet Union. If your product is used to insult or hurt the current administration he destroys it. That is what Trump is doing to TikTok because of Tulsa. Maybe it's time to 'Occupy Wall Street, Again'

Trump Vs Tiktok

Well the man doesn’t really understand tech or how algorithms work (hence today’s tweet🙄)—so not surprised that he will probably fail to get this done. Just add this to his list of failures...

Because he’s a terrible businessman and a stupid person

When has the lack of a legal path ever stopped Trump from committing a crime?

Every time you or some other news org treats his baseless claims as serious, you set yourselves up for these Charlie Brownish statements.

There was never a path for the government to get a cut from two non government businesses jfc. This guy is so stupid.

Weird how all this did was make TikTok eligible for numerous protections businesses enjoy here in the US. Winning amirite? VoteBlue2020

If China gave Trump a trade deal to sell during this election, TikTok will suddenly be a great app. The best ever!
