Arrest warrant issued after hospitalised MDC-Alliance MP fails to appear in court Zimbabwe

JOHANNESBURG - A court in Zimbabwe has issued a warrant of arrest for an opposition member of parliament who is in hospital, after she failed to appear in court for the start of her trial.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere claimed that MP Joanna Mamombe was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, but this has not yet been confirmed by lawyers. Mamombe, and her co-accused Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri, were due to go on trial today on charges of communicating false statements.
