Two dozen Hong Kong activists have appeared in court over a banned Tiananmen Square vigil.

Hong Kong activists shouted anti-government slogans outside court on Tuesday as more than two dozen high profile democracy campaigners appeared over a banned vigil to mark the Tiananmen Square crackdown.

The group of defendants represents a broad section of the pro-democracy movement, from 72-year-old media mogul Jimmy Lai to younger campaigners such as Joshua Wong. "It's not a crime to mourn 4 June," one poster read, while another said,"Oppose political prosecutions, Protest political suppression". Some of those charged face separate prosecutions related to last year's huge and often violent pro-democracy protests.

China is closing down protests. At least they don’t try to jail journalists for 175 years for telling the truth. China is better choice morally than the US. It is China’s prerogative to stop protests, especially since most of them are funded by the CIA.

The legal system in HK is really destroyed. Full of injustice and corruption here only.HK

Hong Kong gov’t violated the Basic Law of HK that guaranteed the freedoms of assembly of citizens. Tiananmen Square vigil has been held for 29years and this is the first time it was banned.

The Gov is erasing the Tiananmen square incident in both reality and textbooks. Related contents were removed and assembly was banned. The same tactic is applicable to everything.

Since when did it become a criminal offense for Hong-Kongers to mourn someone’s death? How can you not swear when you watch the news?

Law has become an evil tool for ccp to oppress the Hongkongers and democrats. Ccp is adopting stronger strategies to silence pro-democratic voices. Freedom is dying in Hong Kong. It is obvious that the city has completed its full transition to Chinese control. StandWithHongKong

So CCP is charging people for mourning an event that never happened according to its claim

It’s the first time that the June 4th vigil was banned in HK, indicating that freedom of assembly is eradicated. More, the attempt of erasing history is evident.
