Harry Dunn's mum said lack of closure 'is doing us real harm and I can’t believe how cruel the US government are being.'

The attorney general is considering holding a virtual trial over the death of teenager Harry Dunn.19, was killed when his motorbike crashed into a car outside a US military base in Northamptonshire on August 27 last year.

But the 42-year-old claimed diplomatic immunity following the crash and returned to her home country, sparking international controversy. An extradition request was then rejected by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.Lord chancellor Robert Buckland QC said ‘holding a trial virtually or in absentia’ is ‘being considered’.It comes after the Dunn family’s MP, Andrea Leadsom, wrote to Government ministers earlier this month asking them to consider holding the trial while Sacoolas remains in the US.

‘The suggestions you put forward for resolving the impasse by holding a trial virtually or in absentia are as you know being considered by the attorney general [Suella Braverman], and she will respond as decisions about criminal proceedings in individual cases are a matter for her and the director of public prosecutions.
