Liberal MP Andrew Hastie says Australia may be indirectly funding university research which goes to Chinese military and AI developments.

Sky News host Sharri Markson revealed on her Sunday night program that the Chinese government is recruiting Australian scientists and academics to a secretive research program called the Thousand Talents Plan by offering lucrative incentives. The program obliges its recruits to abide by Chinese law and religious practice and requires their inventions be patented in China, but offered recruits profitable salaries and additional perks.

Mr Hastie said the Australian government provides the National Research Council close to $780 million per annum. He said these recent revelations add to concerns around whether the money is used by universities and scientists to advance Australia’s national interests or not. “Their intellectual property, their research is harvested – it appears – by the Chinese state,” Mr Hastie said.

eyes_wisdom 🇸🇪 and 🇪🇺 have become soo bad in recent years Perhaps the pending 🇨🇳 world wide takeover will save us all ? Becoming a Chinese obedient servant 🤪

Not only in Australia, they are also carrying out this kind of plans all over the world. We can see that they have huge ambitions🤷

Australia has no obligation to foster the research of Chinese military and AI, as China uses these technologies to spy on people. Everyone is a victim.

China has seen through some of scientists and researchers have funding needs, so 🇨🇳 use money as a lure. Those willing to participate need to know, China's ambitions is obvious, that may have betrayed your country by doing so. ThousandTalentsPlan

Terrible to see that CCP has largely infiltrated into Australia

Please realise that CCPChina takes advantage of your country, steals your technology, sends spies, distorts your political environment, threatens your security and freedom, while blocking its brutal regime from democratic appeals. Decoupling is the answer!

China is a Devil to the world

Threats of CCP infiltrates different aspects, industries, religions, constituencies of many countries' enterprises and academics. Esp. high tech, vaccine & military secret. Stop them and protect your ppl. Cut all CCP related programmes now for safe.

oz_jacko Gees Andrew, you are a bit slow.. Has been happening since the seventies & Gough Whitlam. A lot of politicians & bureaucrats bought ‘Lock stock & barrel’..

Lol, Andrew (anti-China) Hastie having a go at China, quelle surprise.🙃 He purports to represent the people of WA, but is obsessed w China, to our detriment. Perhaps an investigation is needed see to where his loyalties lie, to the US, or to Australia?

To delete a culture, institutes are the first place to get into. CCP has been infiltrating into institutes round the world.

Australia and other countries should investigate the manipulation by CCP China to the universities and institutions in your countries and cut all the direct or indirect funding by China, as it only causes the limit of academic freedom and free speech. Chinazi CCP_is_terrorist

This show it is necessary to cut connection with China

Evil CCP_is_terrorist and disguises as the weaker and humble to learn. They infiltrated the research institution and corrupt the free world. Australia must investigate who's been corrupted already. CCPJudgementDay is coming

Bull crap news again

Maybe? That's a given.

China is not our friend
