Monday, 24 Aug 2020 03:58 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 — The 19-year-old teenager who was ordered to be detained at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after he was found guilty for the death of 23 people in a fire at Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah has filed an appeal against the order. The judge said since the teenager was a juvenile when the offence was committed, he had applied Section 97 of the Child Act 2001 to sentence him.

On January 28, 2020, Justice Azman ordered the teenager to enter his defence on the charges after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against him.
