The Rivers State Police Command has finally begun the orderly room trial of Inspector Peter Ibah and his team members for allegedly raping a 23-year-old widow after arresting her for travelling withou

t wearing a face mask.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the state Criminal Investigation Department, Ahmed Kontagora, disclosed this on Thursday after the state branch of the Nigerian Bar Association prevailed on him to ensure a speedy investigation and prosecution of whoever was found culpable. The state Chairman of the NBA, Prince Onyekere, who led executive of the civil society organisations to the state CID to demand an impartial investigation, added that the move was to ensure that violence against women was ended in the state.

Onyekere, who demanded to see the detained cops following rumours that they had been released, said the police dispelled the claim and took them to the cells, where the suspects were being held. He stressed that the state CID pledged that any officer found culpable would be dealt with according to the provisions of the law.All rights reserved.
