Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured on Wednesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) will consider including in the Witness Protection Program (WPP) the three whistleblowers who uncovered alleged anomalies at the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

Guevarra made the assurance following the recommendation of Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

“We are awaiting the Senate’s formal request,” Guevarra said. “We shall immediately evaluate upon receipt.” Among those Sotto recommended to the WPP are former PhilHealth anti-fraud officer Thorsson Keith, PhilHealth board member Alejandro Cabading, and former head executive assistant Etrobal Laborte, all of whom asked for protection from the Senate due to alleged threats to their lives.

During the Senate hearings over the anomalies, the Senate approved to grant legislative immunity to the three witnesses.
