4, 2019, at the U.S. District Court House inside Robert F. Peckham Federal Building in San Jose, California.The trial was originally set to start in October, but was delayed because of the coronavirus.Holmes, along with her former romantic partner and Theranos president Sunny Balwani, face wire fraud charges alleging they claimed Theranos machines could perform several tests with just a single drop of blood when they knew the technology wasn’t actually capable of doing so.

Both Holmes and Balwani pleaded not guilty and are currently fighting additional superseding indictments filed over the last few months expanding the scope of the existing charges.The spectacular downfall of the once-lauded Theranos has become a cautionary tale about Silicon Valley’s fake-it-till-you-make-it ethos. Holmes founded biotech company Theranos as a Stanford dropout when she was 19, promising to revolutionize blood testing.
