Betty Chew says the accusations are frivolous as she has always obeyed the law. FMTNews LGE

Former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng consoles his wife Betty Chew at a press conference in Butterworth today.

Adding that she had been a lawyer for 26 years, she said she had always been a law-abiding citizen and careful not to break the law. “I am not a tai ka jie or kak long of a community,” she added. “Is it because I am Guan Eng’s wife that I have to face this? Is it because you want to break my relationship with Guan Eng, then you will let me go?”

Chew was earlier charged with laundering RM372,009 in illegal proceeds received as gratification in relation to a project for foreign workers’ dorms worth RM11.6 million.
