Lebanon’s prime minister is allegedly preparing to submit his resignation in the wake of the deadly explosion in Beirut which claimed the lives of more than 160 people.

Prime Minister Hassan Diab will announce his resignation before a cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday 3pm local time.

Several ministers have already stepped down - including the Justice Minister just hours ago. Prime Minister Diab said he would request early parliamentary elections over the weekend - following mass demonstrations across the city. Image: Getty
