19.3 percent of people with a disability were employed
in 2019 compared to 66.3 percent of those reporting to not have a disability — though it's unclear how"disability" was defined here. Thompson said to look into who your company is hiring and who on your staff are visibly disabled.
Another example that Thompson gave is speaking with your workplace in particular about being more open to having a work-from-home policy. With the onset ofand closure of nonessential businesses, companies are realizing that working from home can actually be implemented into their policies. However, Thompson said prior to the pandemic, some people in the disability community have shared stories of being denied this accommodation.
The frustration they are voicing is valid, Thompson said."Everybody is on board with online learning and working online, and it's like, 'I needed this before and was denied it because of my disability, but now, it's the new wave and people understand.
