California lawmakers are considering a tough law to punish police who fail to intervene when witnessing potential excessive force — including possible criminal charges and being banned from law enforcement.

,

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter. His three colleagues, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng, have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter. But law enforcement officials said the bill is unfair to officers because it doesn’t take into account that the Floyd case, in which officers had time to react, is an anomaly. They said that most use-of-force happens quickly, and often in chaotic situations, and that holding officers to an inflexible duty to intervene is not practical or fair.

George Floyd didn't deserve to die, but he was no Angel either.

Shame that the media, elected, government ALL can't even bother picking up a phone when someone calls them to forward a comprehensive national plan for better policing. Elect better...get better

I honestly don't see a thug, depends on what you're looking at. You speak of not condoning killing people and with you mouth you judgmentally murdered him, why because you say he's a thug. There's always the right way to handling things and Floyd's case is no exception.

Ah, there is a poster of thug among the rioters/looters. I don't condone killing ppl & this cop has to go to jail, but Floyd did this to himself. HE WAS A THUG. You martyr thugs. ALL LIVES MATTER. That thug is in hell where he belongs. Sorry but the truth shall set you free.

Abolish the police

Fun fact: George Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose, not strangulation. And he had an extensive criminal record including domestic abuse and armed robbery.

Three months to consider, considering.....🤷‍♀️

George Floyd was a thug

Trump has achieved genocide by denying Covid is real. After trumps impeachment hearing the GOP found him innocent. They are conspiring genocide as well. Why is everyone in denial.

Stopping armed white supremacists in the line of carrying out a racist homicide is hard.

I'm sorry, do you want police or not? Floyd was a pos career criminal. How dare you name a law after a criminal that held a gun to a pregnant women's stomach.

Pathetic. Get rid of the nazis and white supremacists, impose personal liability and police brutality would stop. It so simple but our government just won't do it.

Wait does the George Floyd law mean I can do coke stick up pregnant women and pass counterfeit money too?

Truth. Seriously, we need laws to “expect” law enforcement to do the “right” thing. Nk & We must reevaluate The American Policing Law (1925). Aimed to oppress Black Americans & precursor to prison system. bc BlackLivesMatter GeorgeFloyd protest PoliceBrutality Resistance

PaulDeCristofo4 The fact that we have to tell the “good” guys to help save lives shows that they aren’t...

Split second decisions then that means a lot of officers r abusing that line of thinking 🤔 & not able 2 think fast on their job.cuz a lot of their decisions have proven to be bad decisions.. that has caused deaths of ppl who should not have died by their poor split sec decisions

Good

Once an officers conduct has come into question.a Red Flag 🚩 should b placed in his file .& every dept.. in every State should be notified as a No Rehire/Fired/Recommend Desk/Conduct in Question.. stop suspensions w/pay

Band-aid. Cart before the horse.

They need a law

George Floyd's name should be removed from any prospective law. There have been more relevant individuals in the last 50 years that have been proactive and deliberate in their actions to help the people; not by default from blm.

How about a law to protect victims from devils in judge robes?!

bridges2italy Naming a law after a thug...

Chicago 2.0

this makes sense!!! stop the madness. Failure to stop and render aide is a FELONY enhance it and make it cover police officers actions

In LA, it is known as the..'George Pink Slip Floyd (Comfortably Numb) Law' - California considers strict 'George Floyd' law to punish police who fail to intervene

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Just Remember. If you don't break the law to begin with you won't have anything to worry about unless people like Biden and Kamala Harris are involved. The two most racist people on the planet. Both against Black Americans.

Yes, because when an officer takes an oath we're led to believe that they know right from wrong. Right?

They should consider a strict 'don't resist arrest when you're caught commiting a crime' law if they really want to save some black lives.

should be a national law. and prosecutors too needs to be held accountable.

Pit cop against cop, wondering who will snitch on you. EF being a cop, get a regular job.

Why would cops intervene when libtardia will yell at them?

Define 'potential excessive force.'

Stace_RNresists Good idea

LAPD is scary

CA couldn’t get any worse. Sacramento: Hold our beer

Awesome. So when a thug attacks a police officer his partner can blow the thugs brains out.

This has got to be in La La Land

Fck CA. LA Times = FakeNews

Long overdue, the bad cops have been hiding behind the blue wall way too long. This will help good police officers.

There's not much that's certain in this crazy world, but there's one thing we can always count on: democrats standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the malcontents, anarchists, and criminals who wreak havoc on our lives and communities.

Why wasn’t this law pursued after Rodney King? Seems like they are playing catch-up to an issue that has festered for decades. What a joke, this will only encourage the “blue wall of silence.”

Long overdue

Doctors get malpractice insurance and they kill people once in a while, too. Why the double standard?

Good cops are supposed to report bad cops. But that “blue line”...
