Alex Rodriguez is in the middle of a nasty dispute with his former brother-in-law, who is after a slice of his $1 billion real estate empire.

Rodriguez, a former New York Yankees champion who is now engaged to singer Jennifer Lopez, is being pursued by Constantine Scurtis, the brother of his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis, to the tune of $US50 million ., the pair launched a real estate business together in 2003, with their original deal giving Rodriguez a 95 per cent stake while Mr Scurtis got the remaining 5 per cent as well as a 3 per cent acquisition fee on properties.

The publication claimed they built up a $1 billion property empire together, but that after Rodriguez and Ms Scurtis split, Mr Scurtis was “pushed out of the venture and denied profits”. Rodriguez has also filed a counterclaim, alleging his former brother-in-law withdrew money without permission.Alex Rodriguez’s legal battle has been raging for six years. Picture: Hector Retamal/AFPseen by news.com.au, judge Maria de Jesus Santovenia recently decided Mr Scurtis could seek punitive damages in the case, which has been underway for six years, and said his motion provided a “reasonable showing” to support the claims.

His lawyer, Gonzalo Dorta, told Daily Mail Australia “celebrities are not above the law”, while Rodriguez’s lawyer John Lukacs claimed the case was “baseless” and that they “absolutely dispute liability for all claims asserted”. The latest drama comes after Rodriguez and Lopez announced they were putting their wedding on hold “indefinitely” due to the coronavirus pandemic.Lopez has been married three times before, to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa, backup dancer Cris Judd and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme, 12.
