Maxwell’s lawyers objected, with one saying they had “grave concerns about our client's ability to seek and receive an impartial and fair trial and jury due to the intense media scrutiny around anything that is unsealed.” Preska gave Maxwell’s attorneys one week to appeal the decision, but ordered the documents to be prepared for release in the meantime.
Lawyers for Maxwell argued against the records being released, claiming that consideration for Maxwell’s privacy outweighs the public’s need to see the documents, and that unsealing them could have a negative effect on a criminal investigation seeking out potential Epstein accomplices. That’s how many pages are contained in the Maxwell deposition, out of the numerous records Preska ruled on.
