A man who sexually assaulted a student after a night out has avoided jail 15 years later, after a court heard sending him to jail would require a 'huge amount of public resources'.
Manchester Crown Court heard that Crowley, from Cork, has an 'end of life prognosis' following a serious heart condition, and is kept alive with a machine.Prosecutors told how Crowley, who didn't attend a scheduled trial in 2006, had been out drinking in the city centre. Mr Bryning said Crowley's condition means he has 'limited liberty', and has to use a portable machine if he leaves the house.
