BUTTERWORTH: A 64-year-old retiree was charged at the Special Sessions Court for Corruption here with three counts of cheating involving RM65,000.

Ammeran Abu claimed trial after the charges were read to him by a court interpreter before Sessions Judge Ahmad Azhahari Abdul Hamid.

In the second charge Ammeran was accused of deceiving the same person into handing over RM20,000 for the same reason, and in the final charge, he was accused of deceiving the same person into handing over RM35,000 for the same reason. The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment up to 10 years, whipping and a fine if found guilty.
