The new President of the High Court has asked lawyers involved in personal injury cases, which have been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to focus on negotiations

Ms Justice Mary Irvine has now listed those cases for remote call overs in the last week of July to see what progress has been made.

She said a substantial number of claims only settle on the day they are listed for hearing - therefore because cases cannot be listed for hearing at the moment, they are remaining in limbo. This meant those taking the cases had not received the money they would have received if they settled. The judge said she was asking all of those involved in the 320 claims as well as all of those involved in claims which would have been listed for hearing before the end of July, to negotiate with each other, to try to bring about the result that would have been achieved if the cases could have been listed for hearing.
