JUNE 23 — The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia wishes to express its concerns on the actions by the police using specific laws against activists, politicians, journalists and human rights defenders for exercising their freedom of expression.

Suhakam notes that Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and laws such as the Sedition Act 1948, the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and Section 504 and 505 of the Penal Code and The Security Offences Act 2012 are being used to censor, intimidate, silence critics and curtail freedom of expression and speech.
